NATURAL TREATMENT FOR DANDRUFF

Home Remedies for Dandruff


Dandruff is a hair and scalp problem which is very common and is one of the most embarrassing hair conditions that one can face. Dandruff is a kind of skin disorder that affects the scalp. Dandruff is a condition in which white, dry flakes of dead skin are shed from the scalp. Normally dead skin cells are shed from the scalp, but it results in dandruff only when the scalp starts shedding thick layers of these dead skin particles. Seborrheic dermatitis or Seborrhoea is a disorder of the sebaceous glands which affects the scalp. Seborrhoea produces severe dandruff and a red, itchy scalp. Dandruff rarely causes hair loss or baldness.





There can be many causes of dandruff, but it mainly occurs due to growth of fungal infection on the scalp and is an infectious condition. The problem of dandruff can arise simply because of extreme exposure to heat and cold, or may be due to a complex problem like dermatitis. One might not be aware but problems like hormonal fluctuations, Stress and emotional problems,Skin diseases like psoriasis or eczema, neurological disorders can also lead to itchy, flaky scalp, Hard shampoos & sensitivity to hair care products, Excessive intake of oily and sweet foods and so on.

Dandruff can be controlled by following healthy hair care routine. However, it can even be controlled with easy to follow natural remedies. It is true that natural remedies take time to show results but they can effectively treat the problem completely.



Here are some natural Ayurvedic treatment for dandruff. These are natural home remedies and has no side effects.

Lemon wash

(A) 1. Massage scalp with a mixture made of equal quantities of lime juice and vinegar. 
     2. Wash hair with egg shampoo after this. 

(B) 1. Take peels of around 3-4 lemons and boil them in water. 
      2. After the solution cools down, apply it on your hair and then rinse it off.
      3. Repeat this activity at least twice a week and see the change. 
      4. You could also use lemons for skin problems like acne, blackheads, etc. 

Fenugreek (methi) paste

Fenugreek is very effective in preventing dandruff, hair fall and baldness. 
  • Soak fenugreek seeds overnight in water and then make a fine paste out of it. 
  • Now, apply this paste for around 30 minutes on your scalp and then wash it off later. Repeat this procedure for at least four weeks.
Methi also helps in beating other hair and skin problems like acne, hair fall, itchy scalp, etc.

Neem leaves paste
  • Take some neem leaves and boil them for 30 minutes. 
  • Now, crush them and make a paste. 
  • After this, apply this paste on your scalp for around an hour and then rinse it off later. 
  • You will notice that your hair look much healthier. 
  • Boil neem leaves in water and use this water to rinse hair.
Tulsi and amla paste

Tulsi (basil) is known since eons for its healing properties. 
  • Take few tulsi leaves, make a paste of them and then mix this paste in amla powder. Apply this paste for around 30 minutes on your scalp and then wash your hair thoroughly. You will see that this remedy works wonders.
Curd (dahi) with its acidic and conditioning properties helps fight dandruff.
  • Ferment a small amount of curd (enough to cover your scalp) for two days. 
  • Apply it and keep it for one hour. 
  • Wash it off with a mild shampoo. 
  • Do this at least twice a week.
Another good remedy is mixing curd with white pepper and applying on your scalp. Curd holds anti-fungal properties which help banish dandruff and other hair and skin problems. 

Regular henna (mehndi) application has been followed for centuries and has been known for decreasing dandruff. It has curative as well as conditioning properties.
  • Mix henna, amla, tea powder, lemon juice in curd. 
  • Add a few drops of hair oil. Keep aside for 10-12hrs. 
  • Apply on your hair and leave it for an hour. 
  • Wash it off with a shampoo.
Aloe vera gel contains healing, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
  • Applying fresh aloe vera gel on the scalp is another way of keeping your dandruff at bay. Keep the gel on for 30 minutes. 
  • Wash your hair with an aloe vera based shampoo.
Apple

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well, it can keep your dandruff away too !
It has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Make a paste with equal quantities of apple and orange and apply it on the scalp. Wash your hair after 20-30 minutes with a shampoo.

Gram flour (besan) is an effective cleansing agent. It removes the dirt and is handy for getting rid of dandruff.
Apply gram flour mixed with curd on your scalp. Rinse after 20-30 minutes.

Olive Oil

Scalp dryness can be cured with regular use of extra virgin olive oil, an effective natural moisturizer.
  • Simply heat some extra virgin olive oil until it is slightly warm. Massage it onto your scalp and then wrap your hair in a towel for half an hour.
  • Brush your hair thoroughly to remove the dry flakes and then wash your hair.
Natural home remedy using coconut oil and camphor
  • Heat 4 tbsp of coconut oil
  • Add 1 piece of camphor while it's heating
  • Mix well 
  • Massage on scalp when lukewarm before bedtime
  • Leave it overnight
